A transmission solenoid, or cylinoid, is an electro-hydraulic valve that controls fluid flow into and throughout an automatic transmission. Cylinoids can be manufactured in either an open or sealed design. When they are seated within a closed system, cylinoid bodies must possess the ability to withstand high pressures and fluid temperatures ranging from -100°F (-73°C) up to 500°F (260°C).
